Shop with Hope
Arriving at Taoyuan International Airport, I instantly turn on my mobile and start to call my wife at home. It is supposed to be around 8 am at home in Lima because this is 7 pm in Taiwan, and my wife usually does housework around this moment.
Her voice sounds still heavy because she probably is just awakened, but she knows exactly why I call her and she said that the green backpack is still there at home. Pew, I am relieved as well as upset; I thought I have lost it during the long flight from Peru to Taiwan, and upset because I completely forgot about it.
Well, the backpack does not mean much actually; there are some of my casual clothes and bathing utilities. Some office stationary of mine are also there and I guess I need to do extra shopping with hope that I could find things I left home.
Going out from the airport, I consider on getting some bathing tools and the accessories first. Getting in a taxi I talk to the driver that I would like to get to the nearest mall or supermarket around the airport. I am sure the driver understands the English words I was saying from his nodding head. And when my entire luggage is in the taxi, we are off to a mall I want.
Inside a mall, I see that the situation is just as common as other malls around the world – crowded and noisy. But I have never been in a place with all notification is in another language that I don’t understand. Luckily, I don’t have to be puzzled with the words; all items displayed are so easily noticeable that I know exactly where to get something. The office stationary is easy to find because the area is pretty wide and there are more things than I could image; it is very complete.
After getting the stationary, I move to find the casual cloth I need. The place probably is in the end of the corridor, and along the way I could see many beautiful Taiwan puppets – they apparently are good as souvenirs – on the left side and some beautiful jewelry on the right side. Wow! They look interesting. I guess I will have a little time to shop them before I go home later next week.
